Drums and Percussion
Brian has been drumming since he was 13. After high school Brian studied privately at Texas Christian University under Joey Carter on staff in the music school. From there Brian went on to graduate from the illustrious drum program at the LA Music Academy in Pasadena, CA. Under such drumming legends as Joe Porcaro and Ralph Humphrey, Brian was drilled on a variety of styles including, Rock, Funk, Jazz, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, ECM/Fusion, and playing grooves in odd time signatures. Besides playing drum set, Brian also plays many different percussion instruments such as djembe, congas, timbales, tamborim, surdo, pandeiro etc. While attending LAMA, Brian played in both the school’s fusion and Latin bands, playing drum set in the fusion band while playing percussion in the Latin band. Since graduating from the LA Music Academy, Brian has been studying on his own, and playing live all around the Houston area and beyond.
Piano
Brian has also studied the piano privately throughout his lifetime. Brian has been very fortunate to take lessons with some great pianists. Brian has studied with Scott Hiltzik, Michael Lowe, and Paul English to name a few. Brian has gained a great foundation in music theory throughout his studies on the piano, and is grateful to be able to apply it to every instrument he plays.
Teaching
Brian is available for both private lesson instruction, and teaching group classes. Brian teaches private lessons at the Percussion Center in Houston, TX. Brian teaches all ages from beginner to advanced students. He also teaches hand drum classes for the Bridges Academy of Music at St. Lukes Methodist Church.
